Vipers SC produced arguably their best performance of the season as they beat Maroons FC on Wednesday afternoon.

The Venoms who are favourites to win a fourth title this season ran out 5-0 winners on the day that they returned to winning ways after collecting just a single point from the two games prior.

Allan Kayiwa, Brian Nkuubi, Milton Karisa plus substitutes Paul Mucureezi and Abraham Ndugwa, scored the goals for Fred Kajoba’s side.

After a frustrating opening 45 minutes, Kayiwa netted the opener in additional time, tapping-in from close range a Milton Karisa low cross.

Five minutes into the second half, Nkuubi connected neatly with an Aziz Kayondo cross to head home the second off an impressive diving header.

Two would soon be three with Nkuubi this time setting up January signing Milton Karisa.

Substitute Mucureezi who had replaced Karisa 12 minutes earlier, made it 4-0 on 75 minutes before Ndugwa added a fifth moments later.

It was a game that saw Vipers SC score five goals for the first time this season but one that could also have seen them net more.

Fahad Bayo failed to connect with a Kayondo teasing cross while Karisa could not hit the target from just outside the area.

Before opening the scoring, Kayiwa out jumped the Maroons defence but headed over Geoffrey Wasswa’s delivery from a free kick.

Maroons were out-rightly outclassed on the day and will go home knowing the score line would have been even more disrespectful.

They however, also had two decent chances of their own but could not capitalize.

Abraham Tusubira curled Emmanuel Olinga’s pass out for just a goal kick.

Fred Amaku failed to take advantage of Mutombora’s poor handles early in the second half, side footing a lose ball, off target.

This is Maroons’ 12th loss of the season and it sees them remain in 13th with 24 points from as many games.

For Vipers, they tighten their grip on top spot and now have 53 points with just six minutes to play. The Venoms are also still four points ahead of second placed KCCA FC who defeat Police FC 1-0 on the same day.
