Tuesday, 21-01-2020

-Katwe United 1-2 Proline FC

-Star Light 2-3 Tooro United FC

-Kiryandongo Town Council 1-3 Kigezi Homeboyz

Uganda Cup defending champions Proline FC ensured safe passage to the round of 32 thanks to a 2-1 victory away to Katwe United.

In the game played at the StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo, Anthony Bongole’s side had to do it the hard way, coming from a goal behind to overcome the struggling Big League outfit.

Katwe who are bottom of the Elgon Group in Uganda’s second-tier took the lead through Michael Lubowa, one they held onto until the break.

However, Proline recovered swiftly with two second-half strikes of their own to dump the ‘Tuli Banyivu’ side out of the competition.

Captain Mustafa Mujuzi converted from the spot before Hakim Kiwanuka turned the game on its head with 8 minutes left on the clock.

On the same day, troubled Uganda Premier League side were also victorious in their round of 64 fixture.

Muhammad Kiseka’s side who are second from bottom on the UPL standings scrapped to a hard-fought 3-2 victory over little known Star Light.

A Yafessi Mubiru brace and Isa Mubiru’s 90th-minute strike did the trick for Tooro United who finally get a smile on their face following several months of consistent troubles.

In the other game played on the day, Kigezi Homeboyz also progressed to the next round thanks to a 3-1 victory over Kiryadongo at the Kiryadongo Church of Uganda.

Proline, Kigezi and Tooro join Mbarara City as the four confirmed teams at the round of 32.

Mbarara had on Monday taken care of their fixture with Kakira United, winning it 2-1 away from home.

The Uganda Cup round of 64 action continues on Wednesday with three fixtures on the menu.

Proline FC defeated Bright Stars on penalties to win the last title, last year.
