The Uganda U17 Girls progressed to the next phase of the World Cup 20202 qualification following a 5-1 aggregate victory over Ethiopia.

Leading 2-0 from the first leg, Ayub Khalifa’s side got the job done on Sunday, beating Ethiopia 3-1 in Addis Ababa.

Team captain Juliet Nalukenge scored twice while Margaret Kunihira netted the other.

Alegash Kalsa banged Ethiopia’s consolation goal.

Uganda maintained the same starting team that started the game in Kampala a few weeks ago.

However, they has to settle for a goalless first half as Ethiopia defended well.

However, the deadlock was finally broke in the 55th minutes with Kunihira netting the opener.

Ethiopia drew level moments later as Kalsa netted from the spot.

Then Nalukenge took matters into her own hands, scoring two quick goals to ensure the tie is safe for Uganda.

Following the victory over Ethiopia, Uganda now progresses to the first round of qualification where they will face Tanzania.

Tanzania eliminated Burundi 6-1 on aggregate to reach the first round.

If Uganda take care of Tanzania, they will next face the winner between Cameroon and Sao Tome and Principe for a slot at the World Cup finals in India later this year.
