KAVUMBA – KCCA FC will have it all to do if they are to retain the Uganda Premier League title for the third time running.

Mike Mutebi’s side who have won the last two titles are now 7 points off top spot following Tuesday’s results.

With leaders Vipers SC winning 4-2 at Proline FC, KCCA were not so lucky in their fixture away to Bright Stars FC as they lost 2-1.

It is their fourth loss of the season having gone down to Tooro United FC, BUL FC and Mbarara City FC in the first round.

In the game played at Kavumba on Tuesday, Joseph Janjali and Ronald Ssempala scored for the Stars while Muzamir Mutyaba netted for Mutebi’s side.

As early as the opening minute, KCCA fell behind after Janjali neatly connected with a Brian Kayanja low cross.

Towards the mandetory break, Mutyaba equalized for KCCA FC as he drilled in an Erisa Ssekisambu assist.

However, Ssempala would win it for the home side with 13 minutes to play after good interplay with Jamil Karisa.

Either side had chances to add onto their tally but failed in the end.

Samuel Kato headed over a Herbert Achai corner before John Odemwegu also directed his header wide.

KCCA FC who were without Allan Okello and Mustafa Kizza they saw Mike Mutyaba shoot agonizingly wide late in the game.

For the home side who came into the game on the back of a 1-0 victory over BUL FC in their opening second-round game, had a Ssempala effort ruled out after Kayanja has shot straight at Jamil Malyamungu.

Janjali had a chance to double his day’s tally but his header was cleared off the line by John Revita.

In the end, Bright Stars held on to a third victory of the season.

The three points see them climb into 12th with 16 points from 17 games.

For KCCA FC, they remain in second spot with 32 points, 7 behind Vipers SC.
