The Sand Cranes registered their first defeat at the Copa Dar es Salaam Beach Soccer tournament on Tuesday.

The Salim Jamal Muwonge coached side lost 4-5 to Burundi in what was their second fixture of the competition.

After defeating Tanzania on penalties in the first game, the Sand Cranes were optimistic going into Tuesday’s game but it was no to be their day.

A brace each from Amissi Niyonkuru and Aboubakar Ndayishimie plus a goal from Moussa Masud propelled Burundi to victory.

For Uganda, they struck through Douglas Muganga, Suleiman Ochero, Faizal Muwawu and Ronald Magwali.

Defeat leaves Uganda while three points see Burundi register their first win of the tournament, having lost 3-6 Seychelles on Monday.

Earlier on Tuesday, Malawi lost 8-9 to Seychelles in the game that has so far produced most goals (17) in a single fixture in the competition.

Uganda Sand Cranes now have to play two more games against Malawi and Seychelles.

On Christmas day, Uganda will play Seychelles before winding up the tournament with a date against Malawi on Boxing day.

The format of play is round robin with the leader after all the rounds declared as the overall winner.

Tanzania has won the previous two editions.
