LUGOGO – KCCA FC ensured they end the first round on a high as they defeated Proline 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Having won 7 of their past 9 league games, the Kasasiros were overwhelming favourites going into the encounter and comfortably saw off their Lugogo tenants in the end.

Goals by Sam Ssenyonjo, Nicholas Kasozi and Allan Okello’s brace did the damage on the afternoon.

KCCA start slow but win comfortably in the end

KCCA FC have been looking more like the defending champions in the past few weeks as they chase down early pace setters Vipers SC.

Since exiting the CAF Confederations cup last month, Mike Mutebi’s side have gone on to win five of their past 7 games.

KCCA started slowly on Tuesday as they struggled to create openings.

Ssenyonjo had a shot deflected out for a fruitless corner before seeing an overhead kick go wide.

The youthful striker who had scored three goals coming into the game, then nearly forced Proline into an own goal as he put Yussuf Mukisa under pressure before the defender saw his goal-bound effort saved by goalkeeper Bashir Sekagya.

KCCA’s best chance of the early openings fell to Samuel Kato but the center-back headed a Mustafa Kizza cross straight at Ssekagya.

With halftime beckoning, they struck. After a goal mouth-scramble Ssekagya failed to deal with a Kizza cross before Musa Ramathan’s would-be shot found Ssenyonjo who bundled it over the line for 1-0.

After a slow start to the second half, KCCA FC scored a second goal on 68 minutes as Ssekagya pushed Gift Ali’s corner onto the cross bar before it fell to Kasozi to head home.

At this stage, Proline looked beaten and it was up to KCCA to score more.

Musa Ramathan shot over from an Okello low cross before the latter scored KCCA’s third of the afternoon.

With 12 minutes to play, Ssenyonjo set-up Okello who riffled in from just outside the area.

After the third goal, the stadium went into a frenzy as long-term absentee Julius Poloto made his return to the pitch.

Poloto who last played in March replaced Ssenyonjo in the 80th minutes and inside the additional time, he made impact as he played Okello through on goal to score KCCA FC’s fourth of the afternoon.

For Proline, they came into the game in fairly good form as they had lost only one of their past six games.

However, it was tough-day-out for them as they struggled at both ends.

Edrisa Lubega was at the receiving end of two of their best chances on the day but could not capitalize.

He first miscued an attempt after a defensive error by the visitors before seeing and overhead kick parried away by Lukwago late in the game.

Rogers Matto also headed a Bright Anukani free kick straight at KCCA FC goalkeeper Charles Lukwago.

In the second half, Hamis Diego Kizza blazed over a Kiwanuka cut-back.

The result leaves Proline rooted at the foot of thw table with 9 points from 15 first round games while KCCA FC stay second and now have 32 points, four behind leaders Vipers.
