The Uganda Beach Soccer national men’s football team won silver at the 2019 Copa Dar es Salaam tournament.

This was confirmed on Thursday after the Sand Cranes defeated Malawi 6-5 in their final game of the tournament.

Emmanuel Wasswa continued his fine goalscoring form, netting a treble in the victory. Peter Somoka, Godfrey Lwesibawa and Douglas Muganga scored the other three goals.

Malawi’s goals were by Isaac Kajamu (brace), Sandam Saidi, James Chikoka and Vanacio Malunga.

This was Ugandan’s second proper victory of the competition having defeated Seychelles 2-0 the day before.

Uganda finished second behind champions Tanzania with 7 points from four games.

Tanzania beat Burundi 6-3 to win the trophy for the third time in a row.

The Sand Cranes scored fifteen goals and conceded thirteen thanks for the splendid display of the team skipper and goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige together with the team top scorer Wasswa who had five goals written to his name.

Kibirige was named best goalkeeper of the tournament.

“Our main objective was to win this year’s championship though it slid off our hands and we finished runners up, noted Sand Cranes head coach Salim Jamal Muwonge.

“I am very delighted by the federation especially the FUFA President Eng Moses Magogo for registering and funding our team to take part in this competition.

“This year’s championship is vital in our preparation for the upcoming AFCON Beach Soccer 2020.”
