KITENDE – Vipers SC maintained their unbeaten start to the 2019/20 Uganda Premier League thanks to a 1-0 victory over Wakiso Giants FC on Tuesday afternoon.

Just like it has become a norm, Fahad Bayo scored the only goal of the afternoon.

The striker who has now netted 8 league goals this campaign, scored the winner on the half-hour mark after he was played in by Bobosi Byaruhanga.

The victory sees Vipers move onto 30 points for the season having won nine and drawn the other three.

For Wakiso, this was their third loss in as many games at it sees them remain on 13 points from their first 12 games.

Venoms dominant but fail to score as many as their dominance suggests

Vipers have been the best side in the league this season and showed why, from the very start of Tuesday’s contest.

Brian Kalumba shot wide inside the opening minute before Allan Kayiwa saw his goal-bound effort blocked by Fahad Kawooya.

Karim Watambala blasted one from distance and Wakiso Giants custodian Yasin Mugabi made a mess of the effort before recovering at third time of asking.

Vipers were extremely dominant in the early exchanges but were struggling to create clear openings.

With frustration starting to set in, Watambala, Bayo and Bobosi Byaruhanga all tried their luck from distance but could not trouble Mugabi as their efforts went wide of the target.

Mugabi was proving to be the only piece standing in the way of Vipers’ opening goal as he pulled off a breathtaking stop to deny Watambal in a one on one situation.

However, at the half hour mark, he was finally beaten.

Bayo chested down Byaruhanga’s well weighted ball, shrugged off Fahad Kawooya before rifling into the back of the net.

The league top scorer could have added two more goals to his tally before the break but shot over from a Kalumba cross before seeing an effort foiled by Mugabi.

Byaruhanga who had an extremely brilliant first half had a shot tipped over for a fruitless corner by Mugabi.

Early in the second half, Byaruhanga played Bayo through on goal but once again, Mugabi was their to save Wakiso.

Wakiso start life after Kefa Kisala in miserable fashion

This was the first game after Wakiso parted ways with Wakiso Giants FC but it did not bring any feel good factor with former player Steven Bengo in charge.

From the on set, the Purple Sharks were second best and struggled to create chances. It took them 33 minutes before Kirizestom Ntambi shot wide off an Hakim Ssenkumba pass.

With no clear openings to thread passes into, Ramathan Kateregga shot from distance but his effort went straight at Fabien Mutombora.

Wakiso Giants had an a penalty attempt waved away late in the first half after Hassan Ssenyonjo went down in the area under the challenge of Siraje Ssentamu.

Vianne Ssekajugo got Wakiso’s best chance of the afternoon but pulled his effort wide after he was sent on his way by Ntambi.

Ntambi saw a header from Ssenyonjo’s corner kick cleared off the line by Kalumba.

Inside additional time at the end of 90 minutes, Ssekajugo was denied by Paul Willa’s last ditch block as Wakiso searched for a leveller.

In their next engagements, Vipers are away to Maroons FC while Wakiso Giants host Busoga United FC.
