Uganda 1-0 Ethiopia

Fauzia Najjemba scored the only goal of the game as Uganda edged Ethiopia 1-0 in the CECAFA Women’s Championship on Tuesday afternoon.

Najjemba who was also on target in the 13-0 win over Djibouti on Sunday, found the back of the net with 17 minute left on the clock.

The game looked to be headed for a scoreless draw but Najjemba burst through the Ethiopia defence before slotting into the back of the net from an acute angle.

This was Uganda’s second victory in the competition and after Kenya annihilated Djibouti 12-0 in the early kick off, it means that Faridah Bulega’s side now march onto the last four.

The victory over Ethiopia also feels like revenge after the same side eliminated the Crested Cranes from the qualifiers of the 20202 Olympics earlier this year

For the game on Tuesday, Uganda maintained the same starting XI similar to the one that started in the win over Djibouti on Sunday.

Margret Kunihira replaced Zaina Namuleme in one of the changes that would be made as the game went on. Shamira Nalugya then came on for Fazila Ikwaput.

Juliet Nalukenge who scored five on Sunday was kept under lock on the day as was the duo of Fazila Ikwaput and Hassifah Nassuna.

Nalukenge thought she had scored but unfortunately her goal in the 85th minutes was cancelled for offside.

Uganda’s next game will be against Kenya, one that will determine who finishes top of group B as both sides currently sit on six points.

Crested Cranes starting XI

Ruth Aturo (GK), Viola Namuddu, Asia Nakibuuka, Shadia Nankya, Bridget Nabisaalu, Riticia Nabbosa, Zaina Namuleme, Hasifa Nassuna, Fazila Ikwaput, Juliet Nalukenge, Fauzia Najjemba

Substitutes
