Warriors will be hoping to upset the odds when they take on City Oilers in game one of the FUBA National Basketball League playoff semi-finals.
Ronnie Mutebi’s side head into the contest as underdogs against the six-time defending champions but will be fancying their chances after a good regular season in which they won 18 of their 22 games.
However, the 18-4 record was only good for third spot as both UCU Canons and Oilers went one better by winning 19 and losing just once.
Ahead of game one, Mutebi is confident this is the time that Warriors finally dethrone Oilers.
“I believe this is our time, said Mutebi.
“We foresaw this moment even before this year’s season started and that’s why we intentionally recruited the players we have.
“We have prepared for this encounter since day one.
“Of course they’re the 6 times defending champions but that’s history and clearly we don’t want to live in the past.
“We are hungry for victory and come game time, we will give our best to ensure we achieve our goal.”
It is easier said than done when you come up with the best side in the country.
Oilers have been so good that they have won the title in all the last six seasons and it will take some effort for Worriers to put an end to that dominance.
When the two sides met in the regular season, Warriors won the first 68-66 while Oilers triumphed in the second 83-57.
The other game to be played on Friday will see KCCA Leopards take on UCU Lady Canons in the women’s division.
