KAMPALA – Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) Chief Executive Officer Edgar Watson has denied reports he has resigned his position at the football body.

Romour was circulating that Mr. Watson wants to relinquish his office, and resign from FUFA, as the national football body is embroiled in a World Cup tickets scandal.

Watson reacted to media reports, that he had submitted his resignation letter, days after FUFA president was asked by world football governing body FIFA to pave way for investigations on possible fraud.

Mr. Watson wrote on his twitter that he is still in office, dismissing the reports as incorrect.

“Dear stakeholders, I have seen incorrect information circulating on social media about my position at FUFA. I wish to state that I am still doing my work as Chief Executive Officer of FUFA.
Please disregard any information that is not from my or FUFA official forum.
Thank you,” Mr. Watson wrote.

Whereas FUFA CEO has rubbished the resignation claims, sources allege that Mr. Watson, who has held the role since 2009, could be eying Magogo’s seat.

FIFA ordered FUFA president Magogo to step aside for two months to allow FIFA investigate the alleged sale of the 2014 World Cup tickets.

The said case was filled by Katwe FC president Allan Ssewanyana also the Makindye West Member of Parliament.

Ssewanyana who is also the shadow Minister for Sports petitioned FIFA over the alleged sale of tickets that were allocated to Uganda ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The petition was filed on 30th May 2017 to the FIFA Ethics and Integrity Committee.

At every, FIFA World Cup tournament, a particular number of tickets is allocated to each federation prior to the championship.

In Uganda’s case 177 tickets were allocated but none, according to Ssewanyana were sold to Ugandans.

Magogo will be replaced by his vice Justus Mugisha in the interim capacity.

Who is Justus Mugisha

Mr. Mugisha was early this year appointed as President of the Technical Commission in charge of football in the International School Sport Federation (ISF) for the period running from 2018 – 2022.

The appointment was confirmed by the ISF President Laurent Petrynka.

Born on 27th April 1965, Justus Mugisha is first FUFA Vice President.  He is also the president of Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools sports Association (FEASSSA) and Executive Member of Federation of Africa School Sports.

He secretly owns Standard High School Zana that has produced players who graduated to play for the various national teams including the Uganda Cranes.
