Katwe United got off to a winning start in their maiden FUFA Big League campaign, in one of the six Big League games played on Thursday.

The Allan Ssewanyana financed side who host their games at the StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo, defeated Light SS 1-0.

Abdul Ssemwogerere penned his name in the Katwe United history books as he scored the only goal of the game, their first ever for the Tuli Banyivu side in the Big League.

Ssemwogerere scored via a scotcher from 35 yards, seeing his effort bullet past Light SS custodian Joshua Okwaput in the 73rd minute of the game.

Katwe who were the better side on the day, also struck the frame of the goal twice through Allan Tebusweke. The forward first struck the crossbar in the opening half before rattling the up-right late in the game.

After the game, Katwe’s head coach Hassan Mubiru welcomed the victory and noted that he hopes this is a catalyst for better things to come in future.

“The win against Light SS gave us a dream start to the campaign, noted Mubiru.

“We hope this is a good foundation for us for the entire season and we will be looking to build on it for better results in the upcoming games.”

In the game played in Luwero, Ndejje University defeated Nyamityobra FC in the biggest fixture of the day.

Both sides were embracing their return to the second tier having been relegated from the Uganda Premier League last season.
