Vipers SC vs Tooro United

St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende

Tuesday, 03-09-2019 @4pm

KITENDE – Tooro United will be hoping to put an end to a 12 match winless run against Vipers SC when the two teams meet in the Uganda Premier League on Tuesday afternoon.

Tooro United have lost eight of the previous match-ups, drawing the other four.

However, they did not lose any of the last two meetings with Vipers, sharing spoils in both games.

Wasswa Bbosa’s side will further be boosted by the fact that they got their season off to a winning start, defeating Busoga United 2-1 at Wankulukuku last Saturday.

Vipers SC too won their opening game as they came from a goal down to overcome Bright Stars 3-1 at the same venue.

Against Bright Stars, Vipers who are one of the favourites to win this year’s league title took a while to get going as they scored all goals during the second half. It will be an issue Edward Golola will hope to have resolved during the day’s leading up to Tuesday’s clash.

What they are saying ahead of the game

Wasswa Bbosa, Tooro United’s head coach

“It is good that we go into Tuesday’s game on the back of a victory which works as motivation for players.

“We come up against one of the best sides in the country and it will be a hard game.

“Vipers also won on opening weekend and we have never beaten them but that will not deter us from gunning for all points.”

Moses Golola, Vipers SC head coach

“The game against Bright Stars is now a gone case and our concentration is on the one we play against Tooro United.

“Tooro won on opening day and have a very good coach and will come into the game wanting all three points but we know who we are and want the points too.”

Team News

Tooro United have a fully fit squad at their disposal for the visit to Kitende. Godfrey Lwesibawa, Ibrahim Kayiwa and Willy Kavuma who were all not part of the victory over Busoga have returned. Lwesibawa was on compassionate leave, Kayiwa was suspended and Kavuma was weak after days of treatment for Malaria.

For Vipers, Karim Watambara will miss out due to a shoulder injury. Aziz Kayondo is available after missing the win over Bright Stars due to fatigue. Livingstone Mulondo and Geoffrey Wasswa remain the long term absentees with knee injuries.

Match Facts

The first meeting between the two sides took place in November 2013 with Vipers winning 4-0 at home.

In their previous 12 meetings, the Venoms have triumphed on 8 occasions, drawing the other 4 without losing a single game.

Vipers have won 8 of their previous 12 meetings with Tooro United.

However, when the two sides met last season, they drew both legs including a 0-0 draw in the reverse fixture.

This fixture has been a low-scoring one in the past with none of the last 7 meetings producing more than two goals.

Since the first meeting in 2013, Tooro has scored only four goals against Vipers whilst conceding 20.

Both teams won their first games of the season with Tooro getting the better of Busoga United while Vipers beat Bright Stars.

The other games on Tuesday (@4: 30 pm)

-Wakiso Giants vs URA FC
