KAMPALA – Uganda Premier League newbie Wakiso Giants have made a ‘big’ signing ahead of the 2019/2020 season.
The Wakiso based side which will be playing in their debut season in the top flight have secured the signing of Geoffrey Sserunkuma.
The 36-year old is understood to have signed a short term deal that will see him at the Purple Sharks for less than a year. The rest of the details in the deal have been withheld.
The deal was confirmed by Wakiso on Monday afternoon via their Twitter page;

This is a major cope for Wakiso who will be attempting to finish as high as possible on the table, in their maiden top-flight campaign.
Started just last year, the Purple Sharks finished second in the Big League-last season-to ensure promotion.
Despite conceding the least number of goals (11) in the 2018/19 Big League season, Wakiso were not exceptional at the other end as they scored only 28.
Sserunkuma’s arrival is viewed as a short-term solution to the goal scoring short-comings for Kefa Kisala, at least for next season.
Sserunkuma who has won two Uganda Premier League top scoring accolades (2005 and 2016/17) before, becomes the 9th signing for Wakiso in the offseason after securing the services of Derrick Emukule, Aggrey Madoi, Ivan Sebuguzi, Hassan Senyonjo, Duncan Seninde, Simon Namwanja, Hassan Ssenyonjo and Muwadda Mawejje.
Sserunkuma started his career at Police Jinja in 2002 before joining KCCA FC the following year.
In his first stint with the Kasasiro, he played for just two years before departing in 2006 after his deal expired.
Sserunkuma then moved to South Africa in 2007 where he lasted only a few months before returning to Uganda and signing for Nalubale for who he played for, in the 2007/08 season.
After one season at Nalubale, he returned to South Africa, signing for Bloemfontein Celtic. At Celtic, he lasted just a season, scoring 7 goals in 20 league games before once again returning to Uganda and joining KCCA FC for who he featured in the 2009/10 season.
After a single season, Ssrunkuma once again moved, returning to South Africa and signing for Bidvest Wits where he played only 7 games and scoring one goal.
Bidvest then loaned him to Vasco Dagama for the 2011-12 season. The following season, he joined the now-defunct Victoria University before joining Lweza for the 2015/16 season. At Lweza, he scored 8 goals in 24 games.
A free agent at the time, Sserunkuma was surprisingly signed by KCCA FC for a third time, under the stewardship of Mike Mutebi.
Sserunkuma was top scorer of the league in the 2016/17 season and also had a good showing in the CAF Champions League, attracting interest from clubs abroad and eventually joining Buildcon FC of Zambia.
Fourteen games, 7 goals and just a single season, Sserunkuma left Buildcon and signed for Nepster FC in 2018 but his stay was troubled as he managed just 7 games whilst scoring a single league goal.
The journeyman is a full Uganda Cranes international, scoring 15 goals in 47 matches since making his debut in 2002.
