FUFA Technical Center, Njeru

NJERU – Express FC have undergone a major shake-up ahead of the 2019/20 StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
With only 7 players from last season’s squad currently still with the club, the new-look Red Eagles will start their campaign away to Bul FC on Friday evening at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.
It is a fixture Express would not have wanted to start with but will be optimistic of getting something from it.
Mathias Muwanga, Tony Kyamera, Hamis Batega, Lawrence Kigonya, Sadiq Sekyembe, Ivan Ocholit and Disan Galiwango are the seven that survived the shake-up at Wankulukuku and will be expected to guide Express to victory on Friday.
Still under the guidance of George Ssemwogerere, the Red Eagles made several acquisitions in the offseason, most notably securing the services of Daniel Shabena, Idrisa Kaye and Shafick Avemah.
Shabena was signed from Bul and will be the center of attraction as he makes an immediate return to his former employers.
”I was a BUL FC player but now I have a new family and that’s Express FC, noted the midfielder ahead of Friday’s game.
“Everything I do now is for Express FC, inside me I have a feeling things will be positive. I’m so proud to be here.”
As Shabena looks up to a potential debut, the Red Eagles will be without new-signing Kaye as he is still nursing an injury. Kaye is joined on the sidelines by goalkeeper Mathaius Muwanga who is also injured. Express are also understood to be sweating over the licenses of several players who may also be ineligible to feature.
For Bul, who are still under the stewardship of Peter Onen, they have also made several changes to their squad.
Yunus Sibira, Patrick Sembuya, Hakim Magombe, Willis Otongo, Douglas Owori, Hannington Ssebwalunyo, Dan Shabena, Jamal Buchochera, Paul Mujampani all left the club in the last two months.
However, Onen’s side have successfully replaced the departing players, bringing in the likes of Musa Esenu, Sanon Mulabi, Gwoto Fredson, Geoffrey Akol, Charles Sempa and Sadam Masereka.
The Jinja based side will be confident of a result as they have always-somehow defeated Express at home.
Onen’s side have beaten Express on all their last three home games, scoring an impressive five goals whilst conceding none.
