Big League debutants Katwe United are clearly gunning for a maiden appearance in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, next year.

The Katwe based side who defeated Kajjansi United, over two-legs, to reach the second tier for the first time, have been busy in the transfer market as they sign new players as well as retaining their old guns.

It was announced that on Monday that they had signed two new players in an effort to strengthen their fold.

The Allan Ssewanyana financed side signed midfielders Nketa Billy and Richard ‘Gaza’ Kigozi.

Nkata joins them from top tier side Express FC while Gaza comes in after the expiration of his contract with Wakiso Giants.

The duo signed a 3-year contract with the Club subject to renewal depending on their performance.

The signing of the two players comes just days after Katwe renewed contracts of up to 7 players.

Among the players whose contracts were renewed is team Captain Mukwaya Reagan, Ssendiisa Nicolas, Ssemwanga Saul, Muwanguzi Benjamin, Shafiq Moses, Lwetute Denis and Mulindwa Rayan.

The terms and conditions and other details of the signed contracts remained confidential between the players and the Club.

Addressing the media after Saturday’s exercise, the team’s head coach, Hassan Mubiru, expressed confidence in his players affirming that they are in the league to compete.

“Whoever thinks that Katwe United is comfortable only remaining in the Big League is joking, noted Mubiru.

“We have bigger aspirations which we must achieve.

“We have never dreamt of being a mid-table team, no. We aspire to be on top and cruise to the Premier League next season.”

The club is expected to sign more players so as continue strengthening all its departments ahead of their maiden appearance in the Big League.

Katwe has already started their pre-season training with the emphasis on circuit training at SEB Hotel, intending to develop muscle power and endurance.

The ‘Tulibanyiivu’ side will host their FUFA Big League home games from StarTimes Stadium Lugogo.
