KCCA FC are the reigning SUPL champions.

StarTimes Uganda Premier League reigning champions KCCA FC have been drawn in Group B of the 2019 CECAFA Kagame Cup.

KCCA FC will be in the same group as defending champions Azam FC of Tanzania, in the tournament that is slated to start on the 21st of July, 2019.

The other group B occupants include Kenya’s Bandari FC and Mukura of Rwanda.

This was confirmed on Friday afternoon after the draws were conducted.

In the other groups, group A will see Rayon Sport, TP Mazembe, Kinodoni Municipal Council and Atlabara FC contest for the two available quarter-final slots.

Group C features another Ugandan side, Proline FC who have been drawn alongside APR, Green Buffaloes and Heegan FC.

Proline FC are in Group C.

In the other group (D), it contains Gor Mahia, DC Motema Pembe, Kikosi Maalum cha Kuzuia Magendo FC and AS Ports FC.

Last year, Uganda was represented by Vipers SC who were eliminated by Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia at the quarterfinals.

It has been 13 years since the CECAFA Kagame Cup was won by a Ugandan Club.

Rolling back the years to 2006, then Ugandan Premier League defending champions, Police FC defeated Moro United 2-1 in the final played in Tanzania, to seal their first and only title.

For Uganda, it was the last of only 5 championships they have managed in the tournament’s 43-year-old history.

Not that the clubs which represent Uganda don’t take it seriously, but rather have fallen short to other teams on several occasions, losing 8 finals in the process.

Azam FC defeated Simba SC 2-1 to win the 2018 edition.

Simba SC are the record champions of the competition, having won it on six (6) separate occasions.
