BUGEMBE – Wakiso Giants have finally graduated to the Uganda Premier League after defeating Entebbe FC 2-1 in a FUFA Big league match played at Bugembe Stadium on Thursday.
Norman Ojiki scored the first goal of the purple sharks in the 31 minute to give them an early lead.
Captain Feni Ali could have doubled the home side’s lead on 25 minutes but his effort went wide of the target.
Entebbe FC leveled maters on 42 minutes through Kenneth Madira.
At the start of second half, Wakiso made two substitutes by replacing Hakim Senkumba and Richard kigozi with Abdul Karim Kasule and Geoffrey Luutu replacing the duo.
Ivan Kiwewa missed a golden opportunity in the 50 minute, shooting wide of the target while unmarked in the area.
Wakiso continued to look the better side, but blunt in front of goal. Ogik had a glancing header which was ruled out for offside by referee Brian Miiro.
Kiweewa settled the nerves of the home faithful in the 59th minute, with a goal which turned out to be the winner.
The promotion means Wakiso have been promoted to the top tier at the first time of asking after they were founded last year.
The victory leaves the Purple Sharks with 40 points, four above Kyetume in second with just a game to play.
