BUGEMBE – Wakiso Giants will host Entebbe FC in the FUFA Big League on Thursday afternoon at Bugembe Stadium.
With only two games to play in the season, the Purple Sharks sit 5 points clear at the top of the Elgon Group and know that a win against Entebbe will see them get promoted to the top tier at the first time of asking.
Wakiso are currently on 37 points while Entebbe are second from bottom with 16, but despite the gulf between the two sides, the Purple Sharks’ head coach Ibrahim Kirya anticipates a tough encounter
“We anticipate a tough game since they are fighting against relegation but the boys are ready and are aware of what is at stake. Said Kirya ahead of the game.
“I am optimistic we shall complete the job.
Wakiso are without goalkeeper Yasin Mugabi and midfielder Yasin Mugume who are out injured. Forward Karim Ndugwa also misses out due to suspension.
For Entebbe, they are without Bruhan Matovu, Emmanuel Shadrack (red cards) and Sharif Ochaya Muhammad (injury).
In the other Elgon Group games to be played on Thursday, UPDF host Light SS in Bombo, Kyetume are at home to Nebbi Central in Mukono, Dove All Stars are away to Bukedea while JMC Hippos entertain Kataka at Kakindu.
In the Rwenzori Group, there will be a battle for top spot as leaders Proline host second-placed Kansai Plascon at the StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo.
Currently on 38 points, Proline is just a point ahead Kansai Plascon and victory will confirm Shafik Bisaso’s side back to the Uganda Premier League.
A win for Kansai Plascon will lift them two points ahead of Proline and they would require victory in their last game, to seal a first-ever promotion to the top tier.
Proline who have lost only one game all season, will head into the encounter as favourites but will need to be worry of the threat Kansai can cause.
Proline’s Hakim Kiwanuka is subject to a late fitness test and Isma Kabugu is ruled out for the rest of the season with a troublesome knee.
“We shall approach the match cautiously, said Proline head coach Shafick Bisaso.
“We are not under any pressure.
“This is like one of the many games that we have played this season.
“The players are focused and determined to execute the job ahead of them
In the other Rwenzori Group games, third-placed Kiboga Young visits Masindi to play fellow newcomers Dove, Kabale Sharp visits relegation-threatened Kireka United at the Mandela National Stadium while relegated Ntinda United host Kitara at Mutesa II Wankulukuku Stadium.
