KABIRA/KAMPALA – 2017/18 StarTimes Uganda Premier League top scorer Dan Sserunkuma has been axed from the squad currently preparing to take part in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Vipers forward is part of the 9 players who were announced as discontinued from the AFCON preparations on Monday, 20th May.

He is joined on the list by KCCA FC playmaker Allan Okello and last season’s league top scorer Juma Balinya.

The others include James Alitho, Charles Lukwago, Mustafa Mujjuzi, Halid Lwaliwa, Daniel Isiagi and Disan Ggaliwango.

Sserunkuma, Okello, Balinya, Alitho, Lukwago and Muguzi will join the other Cranes team that is currently preparing for the 2019 COSAFA Cup in South Africa.

For Lwaliwa, Isiagi and Ggaliwango, they are set to pack their bags and head home after also failing to make the COSAFA cut.

Among the 20 that were earlier summoned to the AFCON team, only 11 are maintained by head coach Sebastien Desabre and his technical team.

The 11 will be joined by the 15 professionals who were also called up, and head to the United Arab Emirates for another training camp.

The Cranes will hold another training camp in the UAE.

From there, they will hold a mini-camp in Abidjan, Ivory Coast where they will play two build-up games before departing for the AFCON finals in Egypt, next month.

Allan Kyambadde, Timothy Awany, Patrick Kaddu, Ibrahim Sadam Juma, Moses Waiswa, Taddeo Lwanga, Bevis Mugabi, Hassan Wasswa Mawanda, Isaac Muleme, Khalid Aucho and Godfrey Walusimbi.
