LUGOGO – FUFA Big League side Proline FC will contest the 2018/19 Uganda Cup final.

The Lugogo based club overcame fellow second tier side Kyetume on Sunday to reach a first ever Cup final since inception, over 10 years ago.

Having won the first leg 2-1 away from home, Proline lost the second by the same score line but held their nerves during the shoot-outs, running out 4-3 winners in the end.

After a nerve filled start to the game, Cephas Kabugu converted from the spot to see Kyetume head into the break leading 1-0.

In the second half, Proline regained control of the tie thanks to Ibrahim Bonyo’s equalizer which saw Shafick Bisaso’s side take a 3-2 lead on aggregate.

However, veteran midfielder Patrick Ochan headed Kyetume back in front on the day to level matters aggregate wise at 3-3.

In the end, after 180 minutes, the two sides could not be separated, requiring penalties.

In the shoot out, Kambugu, Robert Ssentongo scored for Kyetume as Vincent Kayizzi and Benon Tahomera missed their kicks.

For Proline, Musitafa Mujjuzi, Joseph Mandela, Bright Anukani and Hakim Kiwanuka scored their respective kicks with only James Begesa missing.

Proline went on to win 4-3 in the penalty shootout to book a spot in this year’s final which will be played at the Masaka Recreational Grounds later this month.

Proline will await the winner of the second semi-final between Express and Bright Stars.

It is currently level at 1-1 after the first leg in Mwerere last Sunday.

The two Uganda Premier League clubs will face off this Thursday at the Mutesa II Wankulukuku for the second leg.

The winner of the Uganda Cup is assured of a slot to represent the country at the CAF Confederation Cup.
