KABALE – Proline will be part of the 16 teams that will take part in the 2019/20 StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
This was confirmed on Thursday after the Lugogo based side won their last game in the FUFA Big League.
Knowing that a win would see them make an instant return to the top tier, Proline who were relegated last year defeated Kabale Sharp 2-0 away from home to ensure they finish top of the Rwenzori Group.
Shafick Bisaso’s side got out of the blocks early, applying early pressure and would soon get their reward inside 6 minutes as Joseph Mandela scored the opening goal of the game.
12 minutes later, Bright Anukani who was summoned to the National team, curled a direct free kick into the back of the net to give his side a 2-0 advantage.
Proline looked to have settled down in the game and controlled the remainder of the first 45 minutes to go into the break with a healthy lead.
In the second half, Proline looked to be contented with their first half rewards and resorted to seeing out the game.
The home side who came into the game having already secured their stay in the Big League, looked deprived of inspiration and rarely put Proline under any sort of pressure.
The victory see Bisaso’s side move onto 42 points fro the season, the best tally accumulated by any side in the Big League.
Their 12 victories from 20 games is also the most in the division and also a record ever since the League was divided into two groups.
Proline thus finishes three points ahead of second placed Kansai Plascon.
For Kabale Sharp, they finish 8th on the Rwenzori Group standings having won 8, drawn 5 and lost 7 of their 20 games this season.
Elsewhere in the Rwenzori Group, Kansai Plascon and Dove FC ensured they will both feature in the playoffs after drawing 2-2 in the contest played at the Bishop SS grounds in Mukono.
Still in the Elgon Group, Kiboga Young were held to a 2-2 draw by Kira United, Kitara outsmarted Kireka 3-0 while Water ran out 2-1 winners away to Bumate.
In the Elgon Group, Wakiso Giants were held to a 1-1 draw away to Dove All Stars, UPDF were 1-0 winners away to Nebbi Central, Kyetume defeated Entebbe 3-0 while Katala and Amuka Bright Stars shared spoils in a 1-1 stalemate.
Both Wakiso Giants and Proline have secured a direct ticket to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League after topping the Elgon and Rwenzori groups respectively.
For Kyetume, UPDF, Kansai Plascon and Dove FC, they will contest a playoff round from which the winner will join Wakiso and Proline in the top tier.
Kuetume will take on Dove FC while Kansai Plascon play UPDF. The winners of each game will contest the final for a place in the top tier.
JMC Hippos, Amuka Bright Stars, Entebbe FC, Nebbi Central, Kireka United, Ntinda United, Kira United and Bumate have all been relegated to the Regional League.
