-Royal Giants got a bye to the quarter finals.
JINJA – The 2019 Copa Coca Cola has reached the quarter final stage after the successful completion of the round of 16.
There were 7 matches played on Wednesday, 15th may, with as many teams joining Royal Giants who got a bye in their fixture after Nakaseke International was thrown out for using an over age player, in the last 8.
In one of the first games of the day, defending champions Buddo defeated Uganda Matyrs High School 2-0 at the Mighty Arena.
Defender Joseph Kafumbe scored both goals in either half to propel his side into the quarters.
In the other 9am Kick-off, Bulo Parents required spot-kicks to take care of Masaka SS.
Following a 0-0 draw in normal time, Bulo converted 4 of their penalties while Masaka scored just 3, to see the Masaka based-giants head home early.
At 11am, Standard High School beat debutants Kawempe Royal College 2-0.
SC Villa’s Salim Abdallah opened the scoring with a stunning long range strike.
Aaron Okwi sealed victory for Standard after dribbling past Kawempe’s custodian Huzainah Lukwago and slotting into an empty net.
At 2pm, Jinja SS scrapped to a 2-0 victory over St. Julian High School at the Kakindu Stadium.
Uganda Cub’s Isma Mugulusi scored the opening goal inside 6 minutes to send the home crowd into jubilation and cheers.
Lawrence Tezikya added a second off a shot from just outside the area to see Jinja SS make it into the last 8.
The other home team, Jinja Progressive Academy (JIPRA) had to recover from a 2 goal deficit to overcome Kibuli SS in penalties so as to storm the quarter finals.
JIPRA would later triumph 7-6 in the tense shoot out.
In the other games, Kitende registered the biggest win on the day, putting 4 goals past a hapless St. Kaggwa.
SC Villa’s Charles Lwanga, Jacob Okao, Abdul Karim Watambala and Bobosi Byaruhanga scored the goals for the eight-time champions.
In the game, St Kaggwa was reduced to 10 men following a red card that was shown to Davis Ahaabwe for a rough tackle on Steven Sserwadda.
Meanwhile, St Henry’s College, Kitovu won 3-2 against Mukono based St John’s High School.
Later in the day, the quarter final draws were conducted.
It was learnt that Buddo SS would take on JIPRA, Kitende and Kitovu would do battle, Standard High play Royal Gaints while Jinja SS takes on Bulo Parents.
