WANKULUKUKU – There will be a new winner of the Uganda Cup on the 25th of May.

Both clubs that qualified for the finals in Proline and Bright Stars have never won it, let alone reach this far in the tournament.

This comes after Bright Stars eliminated Express in penalty shots at 3-2Wankulukuku Stadium on Thursday to join Big League side Proline in the last two of the competition.

The game ended in stalemate on a hit day at Wankulukuku.

Express scored an early goal through John Revita in the 3rd minute, swerving a speculative free kick in past the stranded Hamza Muwonge in the Bright Stars goal.

There were a number of chances for both sides to score early in the game but they either went astray or the keepers denied them.

Express got a number of free kicks but the only successful one was the when the team’s Captain John Revita scored.

Bright stars didn’t have a good game at the start of first half but after the break they made chances.

They eventually equalized through James Angu 10 minutes to full time to take the match to penalties.

In the shootout, Katongole, Rajab Kakooza and Nelson Ssenkatuka successfully scored Bright Stars’ penalties as Express’s Michael Birungi, Mayanja and Sadiq Ssekyembe all missed.

Ssenkatuka converted the winning penalty for Bright Stars.

In the end, the Red Eagles bowed out 2-3 on penalties to continue their wait for major silver ware.

The last time Express won a major trophy was in 2012 when Sam Simbwa led then to the League crown.

Fred Kajoba’s side now book a place in the final against Proline who eliminated Kyetume 5-4 on post-match penalties following a 3 all aggregate stalement.

The final will be played on the 25th of this month in Masaka.
