LUGOGO – KCCA FC moved ever closer to winnin a third StarTimes Uganda Premier League title on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Express FC 3-1 at the StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo.
It was not as easy as the result suggest as Mike Mutebi’s side had to come from a goal down to win all three points in the end.
John Revita put the visitors ahead via a penalty before KCCA responded with three goals of their own. Mustapha Kizza, Muzamir Mutyaba and Allan Kyambadde scored the day’s goals for the Kasasiros.
After a nervy start to the game by KCCA, Timothy Awanyi brought down Disan Galiwango in the penalty area and Express were awarded a penalty.
With the usual penalty taker Tony Odur not on the pitch, up stepped defender John Revita who calmly slotted Express into the lead.
Express put up a professional display but were undone by Mustapha Kizza’s free kick at the stroke of half time, which drew KCCA level and ensured the two sides head into the break locked at 1-1.
In the second half, the home side took the initiative and imposed themselves on Express.
Two minutes past the hour mark, Muzamir Mutyaba handed KCCA their first lead in the game to put them 2-1 up.
Momemnts later, Allan Kyambadde put the game to bed with his side’s third of the afternoon.
In the end, it was KCCA smiling after collecting three vital points in their bid to dethrone Vipers SC.
Kyambadde was voted the day’s Man of the Match and awarded with UGX 100,000.
The three points won see KCCA move onto 59 points, 9 ahead of second placed Vipers, with only three games to play.
The Kasasiros now require only a single point to win a third League crown in four years.
For Express, they remain 11th on the standings with 33 points from 27 games so far.
