Desabre summons Dortmund defender as Cranes squad for Tanzania is named

KAMPALA – Uganda Cranes head coach Sebastien Desabre has named a squad of 31 local based players and 15 foreign, to prepare for the final AFCON qualifier game against Tanzania this Month.

The Frenchman has included one new face in the usual squad of the foreign based players, Herbert Bockhorn who features for Borussia Dortmund in Germany.

The local foreign players start training effective 11 March at Startimes Stadium Lugogo where they will also play a practice match between a Kampala select side before the Desabre selects the final squad.

The local players summoned include two unattached players Hassan Wasswa Mawanda and Godfrey Walusimbi.

New faces on the summoned squad include Samson Mutyaba from Maroons FC, Halid Lwaliwa of Vipers SC, Majwega Brian (Maroons FC), Obenchan Filbert (KCCA FC), Mbowa Paul Baker (URA FC), Wila Paul (Police FC), Owori David (SC Villa), Micheal Birungi (Express FC), Madondo Joel (K-Jinja SS), Bashir Mutanda (SC Villa) and Juma Balinya (Police fc).

Shaban Muhammad and Moses Opondo have been recalled again among the foreign based players having missed the first leg against Tanzania, at Namboole.

According to the FUFA website, Desabre was quoted saying he wants to finish the qualifiers on a high and he hopes to do a good job.

“We are setting the ball rolling as we want to finish on a high in the group with good results against Tanzania. I have summoned a new player on the team playing in Germany while some have been recalled to the squad. We are hopeful they will do a good job” said Desabre.

Desabre also added that he is impressed with the way local based players are playing, therefore he wants to give them an opportunity for them to prepare for 2020 CHAN qualifiers against South Sudan.

“I have been impressed with the quality of players in the local league which will also be an opportunity for me to have early preparations of players for 2020 CHAN Qualifiers against South Sudan in July and August” he added.

The 15 foreign based players and 9 other stars from the local camp will join camp in Cairo, Egypt from 18th-22nd March 2019.

for camp in Cairo,Egypt: Denis Onyango (Mamelodi Sundowns, South Africa), Jamal Salim (Al Hilah Omdruman, Sudan), Robert Odongkara ( Adama City FC, Ethiopia), Murushid Juuko (Simba, Tanzania), Denis Iguma ( Kazma, Kuwait), Nicolas Wadada Azam FC, Tanzania), Herbert Bockhorn Borussia Dortmund, Germany), Moses Opondo (VendsysselFF, Denmark), Joseph Ochaya (TP Mazembe, DR Congo), Khalid Aucho (Church Hill Brothers, India), Faruku Miya (Gorica, Croatia), Edris Lubega (SV Reid, Austria), Emma Okwi (MC Oujda, Morocco), Muhammad Shaban (Raja Casablanca, Morocco).
