Vipers SC Vs CS Sfaxien

Date: Saturday 12th, January 2019

Kickoff: 4:00pm

Venue: St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende

Referee: Salisu Basheer

KITENDE – Vipers SC will host CS Sfaxien in the CAF Confederations Cup Play-off round at Kitende, hoping to finally bury their humiliating exit from the Champions League.

Vipers SC dropped from the Champions League after losing home and away to CS Constatine leading to the exit of Mexican tactician Javier Matrinez.

A victory over CS Sfaxien on Saturday will help ease the growing impatience at Kitende.

“We know how tough the task that lies ahead is but we will try our level best to achieve our desired goals, said Vipers coach Nam Ouma.

“Sfaxien are one of the giants of the game but we have done our homework and hopefully the efforts pay off.

The Tunisian Giants eliminated Green Buffaloes of Zambia 4-2 on aggregate to get to this stage and having won the Confederations Cup on four previous occasions, a play-off elimination would spell disaster back home.

Coming into Saturday’s first leg, the Tunisians will be targeting a result that eases their job in the final game.

“We are going to play attacking football against our opponents and i know results will be on our side, said Sfaxien coach Ruud Krol.

“The only disadvantage is the artificial turf since we play on natural grass and the long trip from Tunis to Uganda has been difficult.

Vipers come into this encounter after a comprehensive 3-0 win against Onduparaka FC 3-0 in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League courtesy of goals from Geoffrey Wasswa, Dan Sserunkuuma and Livingstone Mulondo.

This will be a continental debut for Vipers coach-Ouma.

Vipers SC medical update ahead of the encounter sees of Fred Okot still out with a Knee injury. Bashir Ssekagya is also unavailable following an injury he sustained away to Constantine in the CAF Champions League. Aggrey Madoi (Ankle injury) will also miss out on the encounter.

Cs Sfaxien will miss out on Alaeddine Marzouki who scored a brace against Green Buffaloes due to suspension. Hani Amamou and Firas Chaouat are expected to provide necessary fire-power upfront for the Tunisian side while.

Both teams lie second on the log and are unbeaten in their respective domestic leagues so far hence this encounter is poised to be an exciting one.

A win over two legs for Vipers SC will help them book a maiden appearance in the CAF Confederation Cup Group stages.
