KAMPALA – Luziri based side Maroons FC have received a new sponsor for the ongoing StarTimes Uganda Premier league season.
Maroons received shillings 130million sponsorship for one year and 12months from Virgin Gold Sunflower oil, a brand of Ngetta Tropical Holdings.
The sponsorship is a timely boost for the club that has been struggling mainly on the pitch with their only league victory in ten attempts coming against Onduparaka in Luzira.
Club Vice Chairman Julius Aluka noted that the partnership is the first of a kind at the club:
“We are very grateful for this, its the first time we are getting a fully fledged sponsor in the club’s history, said Aluka.
“They have recognised us as one of their ways to prosper their business and we are also proud to be part of this partnership.
Maroons is one of the oldest clubs in Uganda and is also among the government funded, with the likes of KCCA, URA, UPDF and Police FC among others.
During the unveiling ceremony held at Serena on Monday, Johnson Byabashaija, commissioner general of Prisons, excitingly said;
“Thank you Ngetta holdings for this generous offer, I assure you that this is a wise decision, this is a club of pedigree. You will get more than what you expected.
He also added that Maroons FC will not disappoint the new sponsors and their performance will improve because they have a financial booster now.
“Maroons is going to improve on its performance because they now have a financial boost, Byabashaija emphasized.
Maroons are 13th on the 16 team table, just a place above the red zone with seven points from ten games
