
CAIRO – The draws for both the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup were announced on Friday afternoon by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Uganda’s representative in the Champions League, Vipers SC have been drawn to face neighbours Al Merrick of Sudan.
This will be the second time Vipers feature in Africa’s Club elite competition following 2016 when they were eliminated by Nigeria’s Enyimba 2-1 on aggregate at the Preliminary stage.
Vipers qualified for the competition after winning the Uganda Premier league last season.
The first leg of their clash with Al Merrick will be played in Sudan on either 27th or 28th of this month while the return leg in Kitende takes place on 4th of December.
The winner between the two will next take on either Algeria’s CS Constatine or Gambian side GAMTEL in the first round of the competition. The first round games will be played between 16th-16th and 21st-23rd of December.
KCCA FC became the first Ugandan club to reach the revised tournament’s group stages this past season but were eliminated before making it to the knock out.
The Kasasiro Boys themselves have been given a by in the preliminary round of the Confederations cup.
However, they will face the winner between Mtibwa Sugar of Tanzania and Seychelles champions Northern Dynamo in the first round of the competition.
The first leg will be played between 14-16th of December in Kampala while the reverse fixture takes place seven days later.
