The highest scoring fixture in the French top division this past weekend was played at the Stade Geoffroy Guichard as St. Ettiene required an 89th-minute strike through Romain Hamouma to defeat Angers 4-3.
In Italy, Juventus continued their impressive start to the 2018/19 Serie A season with a 3-1 home victory over Cagliari on Saturday. The Old Lady took the lead through Paulo Dybala inside the first minute but the visitor leveled matter on 36 minutes thanks to Joao Pedro. Two minutes later, Cagliari scored again but this time Filip Brdari put through his own net to hand Juve a 2-1 lead going into halftime. Three minutes to time, Juan Cuadrado made the points safe for Massimiliano Allegri’s side off Cristiano Ronaldo’s fifth assist of the season.
On the same day, Inter Milan thumped Genoa 5-0 to remain second on the Table. Roberto Gagliardini (x2), Joao Mario, Matteo Pplitano and Radja Nainggolan scored the goals for the Narazuri.
On Friday, Dries Mertens scored a hattrick as Napoli put Empoli to the sword. Lorenzo Insigne and Arkadiusz Milik were the others on the score sheet in the 5-1 win which ensures Carlo Anchelotti’s side remain level on points with Inter in second, and six behind leaders Juventus.
Elsewhere, Alessio Romagnoli continued his heroics with another injury-time winner as Milan defeated 10 man Udinese 1-0 on Sunday. Having scored the winner in the 2-1 win over Genoa on Wednesday, the Italian made sure that Milan moves into the top four for the first time this season.
In Rome, Lazio returned to winning ways thanks to a 4-1 home win over SPAL. Ciro Immobile scored twice and a goal each by Danilo Cataldi and Marco Parolo on a day that saw Simione Inziagi’s charges move fifth, level on points with Milan.
For Roma, they required an 85th Alessandro Florenzi screamer to walk out of Florence with a point. Jordan Veretout had earlier put Fiorentina in the lead via a penalty in the 32nd minute.
In the Spanish la Liga, Real Madrid ended a four game winless run, defeating Real Valladolid 2-0 at the Santiago Bernabue. Two late goals from substitute Vinivious Jr and Captain Sergio Ramos (pen) were all the Santiago Solari needed to register a maiden League victory after replacing Julien Lupetegui last Monday.
For leaders Barcelona, they also required two late goals from Osman Dembele and Luis Suarez to get past Rayo Vallecano 3-2 on Saturday. Ernesto Valverde’s side took the lead through Suarez on 10 minutes but would soon find themselves trailing in the game thanks to Jose Angelo Pozo and Alvaro Garcia’s strikes. With Sevilla drawing 0-0 away to real Sociedad on Sunday, Barcelona now move four points clear at the top of the league.
Elsewhere, Atletico Madrid failed to see out a 1-0 lead handed to them by star-player, Antoine Griezmman on 69 minutes, conceding with eight minutes to play and in the process drawing 1-1 away to Leganes on Saturday afternoon. On the same day, Pere Pons scored a 48th minute winner as Girona defeated Valencia 1-0 at the Mestalla to 8th on the log.
In Villareal, Alfonso Pedraza scored an injury time equalizer for the home side to draw 1-1 against Levante. Former Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori’s own-goal had earlier put the visitors in the lead on 77 minutes.
In the German Bundesliga, Borrusia Dortmund moved four points clear at the top of the summit thanks to a 1-0 win away to Wolfsburg on Saturday afternoon. The only goal of the game was scored by Captain Marco Reus on 27 minutes.
On the same day, Bayern Munich threw away a 1-0 lead with only a minute of regulation time to play as they drew 1-1 at home to Freiburg. Former Arsenal forward Serge Gnebry put the Bavarrians in the lead with 10 minutes to play but the visitors equalized on 89 minutes through Lucas Holer to earn a famous point off Bayern. The draw means that Bayern are now four points behind Dortmund and currently occupy third spot. For Freiburg, they move up into 10th, five points off a Europa League place.
The highest scoring fixture in Germany was played at the Bayer Arena as home side-Bayer Leverkusen were humiliated 4-1 by Hoffenheim on Saturday. Arsenal loanee-Rese Nelson put the visitors in the lead with 19 minutes played but Karim Bellerabi equalized for Heiko Herrlich’s side 11 minutes later. Hoffenheim scored the last three goals of the game through Joelinton (x2) and Italian-Vincenzo Grifo to make it three victories in as many games.
There were also victories for Frankfurt, Leipzig and Schalke over Stuttgart, Hartha Berlin and Hannover respectively in the Bundesliga over the weekend.
