UCU lady Cardinals require spot kicks to win inaugural FUFA Women’s Independence cup

FUFA Women’s Independence Day Cup

Clubs Category: UCU Lady Cardinals (5) 0-0 (4) Kawempe Ladies

Secondary Schools category: Kawempe Muslim 1-0 Pride College Mpigi

Primary Category: Jolly Primary School 3-0 Bembe Hill Primary School

KAZO – UCU Lady Cardinals overcame Kawempe Ladies 5-4 on penalties to win the inaugural FUFA Women’s Independence cup in the Clubs category.

In the match played at Kazo Grounds on Tuesday, the Mukono based side had goalkeeper Ruth Aturo to thank as she saved Mariam Nakabugo’s kick in the spots after the two sides had drawn 0-0 in normal time.

The victory means that UCU have now won the FUFA Women’s Cup and the Independence Cup this year.

UCU received a prize money of UGX. 700,000 and a trophy.

In the other finals, Kawempe Muslim edged Pride College-Mpigi a 1-0 in the Secondary Schools category.

The only goal of the game was scored by Nakato Rebecca in the 54th minute. Kawempe Muslim SSS bagged 500,000Shs on top a trophy.

Elsewhere, in the Primary Schools category, Jolly Primary School defeated Bembe Hill Primary School 3-0 to emerge champions.

Nanyonjo Jarida, Tamale Hanisha and Nagadya Jovena scored for Jolly primary School.

UCU Lady Cardinals forward Hasfa Nassuna won the top scorer Award after netting six goals in the tournament.
