LUGOGO – Express FC registered their first victory of the current Uganda Premier League campaign thanks to a 3-1 win over Police at the StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo.
Tony Odur opened up the scoring before Ibrahim Kayiwa and Micheal Birungi added a goal each to hand Kefa kisaala’s side maximum points.
Following a disappointing 3-1 defeat against Mbarara City, Kisaala’s charges needed a positive response and indeed they reacted early against the Cops as Odur put them ahead in the 9th minute.
Kayiwa doubled the lead in the 34 minute to send the Wankulukuku faithfuls into a frenzy. At the halftime breathe, Express deserved the 2-0 lead.
After the recess, Police pulled one back with Ali Kigundu scoring into his own net. Abdallah Mubiru’s side pressed for the equaliser with Express seating back to protect their lead.
With the clock ticking, Micheal Birungi scored in the final minute of normal time, securing maximum points for Express. By full-time whistle the evening belonged to the Red Eagles whereas it was yet another miserable day to the cops.
This was Kefa kisaala’s first win of the season while Abdallah Mubiru’s side suffered a 3rd straight defeat of the new campaign.
Up next, Police travel to stubborn new league entrants Ndejje University while Express host BulFc in the next league fixtures.
