LUGOGO – Jamila Nansikombi posted a game high 24 points as her JKL Lady Dolphins took care of UCU Lady Canons 75-69 in game two of the FUBA National Basketball League Women’s finals on Friday night at Lugogo.

The victory last night means that JKL now take a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series having won game one 70-64 on Wednesday.

UCU started strongly, posting the first four points of the contest thanks to Brenda Kayaga’s two quick layups inside the first minute. Despite Dolphin’s Ritah Imanishimwe throwing down a long three to reduce the deficit to one, UCU increased their lead to seven (10-3) with 06:55 on the clock as Kayanga and Sarah Ageno made threes of their own.

By the end of the first quarter, UCU were leading by as many as 12 points with the score board reading 23-11.

JKL responded immediately with the five points of the second quarter (Flavia Oketcho 2 and Nansikombi 3) en route to winning it 22-12 and in the process reduce UCU’s lead to just two points at half time (33-35).

Hope Akello leveled the game for JKL inside the first six seconds of the third and she ensured her side took its first lead in the game with another layup moments later.

Despite UCU leveling the game after Rosine Micomyiza’s two with 03:43 to play in the quarter, JKL went on to win it 22-16 and ensure they lead by four (55-51) going into the last 10 minutes.

In the fourth, JKL started brightly, posting the first seven points of the quarter and hold a healthy 11 point lead (62-15) with just over nine minutes to play. However, UCU cut the lead to just three after a run of 8-0 with 07:17 on the clock.

After Rose Akena’s converted layup two minutes later, the University side moved to within a point of JKL (64-63) but that is the closest they came as they went on to lose the quarter 20-18 and the game 75-69.

Akello and Muhayimina Namuwaya who scored 12 points each added 12 and 11 rebounds respectively to post a double double in the victory while Ritah Imanishimwe posted 17 points on the night.

For UCU, they also had four players reach double figures in terms of points. Kayaga (11), Sarah Ageno (18), Captain Vilma Achieng (14) and Angela Zianah (11).
