Betway Power extended their lead at the top with a hard fought victory against struggling Pemba Warriors.

Power edged Warriors 68-59 in one of the two National Basketball League (NBL) games played on Friday at the Indoor Arena in Lugogo, Kampala.

Despite a poor start, Power managed to stage a comeback to seal their 18th victory of the season.

Warriors had a bright start to the game: The Kyambogo team led 9-21 after the first quarter but Power won the next quarter 19-12 to reduce the deficit to five points going into the long break.

Warriors edged the third quarter 16-17 but they were humbled 24-9 in the last quarter as the five time champions recorded an impressive come back.

Geoffrey Soro led the table leaders with 13 points, Suleiman Bbale and Joseph Ikong contributed 12 and 11 points in that order.

Mark Opiyo (15), Amisi Saidi (12) and Syrus Kiviiri (10) scored double point figures in a losing effort. Saidi also added 10 rebounds to his tally.

The defeat is the second Warriors have suffered against Power this season – Power had won the first round game 78-82 on May 25th.

Warriors have now lost four games in a row, and eight overall this season from 17 league games.

In the other game of the day, Nkumba’s Brenda Ekon scored a game high 34 points but her tally was not enough to stop UCU Lady Canons in the Women’s division.

UCU won 84-65 with Rose Akon scoring 20 points. Rhoda Naggita contributed 16, Sarah Ageno added 13 as Esther Akwap and Brenda Kayaga managed 12 and 10 points respectively.
