UCF commemorates International chess day with tournament

Uganda Chess Federation (UCF) commemorated the International chess day with a Tournament held in Jinga this past weekend.

The one day event took place at the Source Gardens with a turn up of 15 clubs  that included  Bunamwaya chess club, Chess Warriors-MUBS ,Lweza Chess club, Dmark chess club, BCLA Academy, Kireka Chess Club, Mulago Rooks ,UCU Queens, Jinja Knights, West Nile chess Club, Mulago Overs chess club, Mengo Chess Club, Gambit and Kireka Panthers  .

D Mark Chess Club were Crowned as the overall winners fending off stiff competition from Chess Warriors who took the finished second.

Dmark’s Patrick Kawuma won the tournament with 12.5 points and in process scooped the Gold Medal; Joshua Katumba took Silver while Moses Muwanga went home with the Bronze.

In the ladies category Ndagire Mary Kevin triumphed as winner with 6 points and doubled as the best young achiever in the game, Nakabo Penina won Silver with 5 points and  Naddya Benita took the Bronze.

Mr.Ategeka Henry the Secretary General for the Uganda Chess Federation thanked the various clubs that participated in this tournament and appreciated players like Saviour Ayiokoko who travelled from West Nile take part in the competition.
