LUGOGO – Five time league defending champions City Oilers cruised to a 65-57 victory over rivals BetWay Power in the National Basketball League on Friday evening.

The Oilers led from start to finish in a game that was supposed to be tight but ended up as a disappointment to the Power faithful.

At the start, Oliers raced into a 5-0 lead inside the first three minutes of the game thanks to Landry Ndikuma’s layup and Josh Johnson’s three pointer.

Geoffrey Soro scored Power’s first points on the night but not even he could stop Oilers from winning the first quarter 23-18.Power won the second 18-16 thanks to some brilliant team display but it was not enough as Oilers led by three at half time with the scores 36-39.

Despite Soro scoring the first points of the third via a layup, Power could only manage two more points (Francis Kasinde) as Oilers won the low scoring quarter 12-04.

Power tried to come back in the fourth, winning it 17-14 but it was too little too late as Oilers won the game 65-57.

Oilers’ captain Jimmy Enabu top scored on the night with a game high 18 points, adding seven rebounds and five assists to his name despite conceding four turnovers.

Landry Ndikuma (17) was the only other Oiler who reached double figures in terms of points.

For Power, Captain Joseph Ikong top scored for them with 17 points while Geoffrey Soro managed a double-double of his own with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Despite the third loss of the season for Power, they still lead the standings with a 13-3 record from their first 16 games.

For Oilers, they have now won 11 of their first 14 league games and still seat second on the 12 team log.

In the Women’s division, A1 challenge proved too good for KIU Rangers with a 78-44 victory, to temporarily go on the top of the table.

Stella Nikuze scored 15 points, Susan Amito added 11 as Elizabeth Akol and Ruth Kirungi contributed 10 points each.
