NBL: Warriors lose to KIU Titans again

LUGOGO – KIU Titans continued their fine run of form against Pemba Warriors in the FUBA NBL as the eased to a comfortable 82-60 victory at the MTN Indoor Arena in Lugogo.

The Warriors who came into the game having lost all their last four fixtures against KIU started slowly, managing only seven points in the first quarter, as it ended 7-21.

Warriors continued to be the second best side in the game as Titans won the second quarter 21-16 and in the process took a 22 point lead into half time with the scores reading 23-45.

Warriors were charged up back from the rest rooms but KIU managed to edge the third quarter 14-13.

Holding a 23 point lead going into the last ten minutes, everyone had already sensed that it was game down.
Warriors tried to stage a comeback but only managed to win the last quarter 24-23 to lose the game 60-82.

Since the play-offs semi finals last season, the Titans have now won all their last five games against Warriors including the two regular season’s games of this year.

Sudi Ulanga top scored for the Kansanga based side with 16 points, including four three pointers.

Sam Agutu and Michael Bwanga added 14 points each in KIU’s victory while Chris Omanye contributed 13 points and Ethiene Kazungu grabbed 10 rebounds for the University side.

Warriors who missed the services of Stanley Mugerwa who is Madagascar for the Africa Cup 3*3 qualifiers, had Syrus Kiviiri and Thierry Chitona garner 17 and 13 points respectively.

The loss is the fifth for Warriors this season – The side has lost to KIU (2), City Oilers, Betway Power and Sharing Youth.

Both sides will return to action this Sunday at MTN Arena – KIU will take on UPDF as Warriors faces off with the defending champions City Oilers.

In the other tie, Flavia Oketcho scored a game high 21 points as JKL Lady Dolphins rolled last KIU Rangers in the ladies category.

JKL won 44-57, with Namuwaya Muhayimuna and Stella Oyella also contributing 10 and 12 points in the victory.

KIU Rangers who trailed from start to the final buzzer, had Atulinda Maureen and Fionah Apiyo collect 10 and 14 points in that order.
