Weightlifter Irene Kasuubo, 4 others vanish in Australia

KAMPALA: Following Uganda’s spectacular performance at the just concluded 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, a number of Ugandan athletes went missing from the camp.

Irene Kasuubo is a three-time gold medalist in the African Weightlifting Championships, Miss Kampala Fitness 2016 and a body builder.

In November 2016, Kasuubo added the Miss Uganda Fitness accolade to her collection displaying an evident improvement in gymnastics, fitness, muscle toning and above all, confidence.

PML Daily has learnt that five athletes were reported missing as Team Uganda prepared to return.

The others missing include Halima Namboozo (Table Tennis), Kalidi Batuusa (Weightlifting), Reagan Ssimbwa (Boxing) and Bashir Nasir (Boxing)

Reagan Ssimbwa defeated Lukmon Lawal (Nigeria) at the Round of 16 however lost to Sammy Lee (Wales) at the quarterfinals in the Light Heavyweight (81 kgs) category at the just concluded 2018 Commonwealth games in Australia.

Team Uganda was on Thursday afternoon received by the First Lady, also Minister of Education and Sports, Janet K Museveni at Entebbe International Airport, amidst celebration across the nation.
