Uganda Crested Cranes will hope to overcome the 1-0 deficit when they host the Starlets at Lugogo on Sunday.

Kenya’s women football national team put one leg into the second round of the Women’s African cup of nations qualifiers thanks to a 1-0 win against the Crested Cranes in Machakos on Wednesday evening.

The sole goal of the game came after 54 minutes thanks to Lillian Adera’s curling free kick that proved too much for Cranes keeper Ruth Aturo.

Uganda who went with the intention of getting a positive result opted to play a defensive game which seemed to upset the Kenyans.

Uganda Crested Cranes who have never defeated their Kenyan counter parts seemed to be on the verge of an important point away from home only for Adera to happen.

While Uganda trail heading into the return leg, They will take pride in the score as the last two meeting with Kenya have all ended in 4-0 defeats during a friendly played at Moi Stadium in Kisumu two years ago and in the CECAFA Women Championship that was held at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru – Jinja.

The return leg is scheduled for on Sunday, April 8 at the StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo with the winner to face West Africans Equatorial Guinea in the second round.

Crested Cranes XI: Ruth Aturo (GK), Viola Namuddu, Grace Aluka, Shadia Nankya, Yudaya Nakayenze, Tracy Akiror, Asia Nakibuuka, Shakira Mutibwa, Juliet Nalukenge, Hasifah Nassuna, Zainah Namuleme

Substitutes: Daisy Nakaziro, Christine Nambirige, Gladys Nakito, Spencer Nakachwa, Damali Matama, Winnie Babirye, Shamirah Nalugya
