Uganda Cup Round of 16
Soana vs KCCA FC
Kavumba Recreation Grounds
Wednesday, 04:00pm
KCCA FC will be back in action on Wednesday in the Uganda cup round of 16 as they travel to Kavumba to take on Soana.
This comes days after the two time league defending champions made history by becoming the first Ugandan club to reach the group stages of the CAF Champions league.
KCCA defeated Ethiopian champions St. George 1-0 on Saturday to book their place in the prestigious group stages in the CAF elite club competition with an aggregate win of the same scoreline after two games.
With that (champions league) sealed, their focus now turns to trying to defend the Uganda Cup which they won last year as they defeated Paidah Black Angles 2-0 in the finals.
Speaking to the media before the game, KCCA FC coach Mike Mutebi emphasised that the team will not be sleeping despite the historic achievement this past weekend.
“The team is very much ready for our Uganda Cup game against Soana, said KCCA FC coach Mike Mutebi.
“Against Soana, it is going to be easy because it is a knockout game and i expect them to come and try to beat us like every other team does.
“I think the confidence that my players have after Saturday will play into our favour and hopefully make it to the last eight.
“My players are very motivated especially after that win against St. George because that worked as a turning point in our season.
Asked about the availability of captain Timothy Awanyi and Darrick Nsibambi after they entered camp with the National team, Mutebi had this to say.
“I don’t know if Timothy Awanyi and Derrick Nsibambi will be released by the National team coach as they are currently with his team but even if they are not around, we have enough in our ranks to win against Soana.
Soana who seat 11th on the Azam Uganda Premier league table will have it all to do against against team that has already defeated them twice this season.
KCCA beta Soana 4-0 in Kavumba in their first meeting before the Kasasiro Boys ran out 1-0 winners in the second round encounter weeks ago.
Alex Isabirye’s men who have not won a game against KCCA in their last six attempts (D2 L4), eliminated fellow UPL side Onduparaka FC on penalties in the round of 32.
The last time that Soana defeated KCCA was back in 2015 when the Smart Obed owned side ran out 2-1 victors on the road in a league encounter.
KCCA FC defeated Simba FC 2-1 in the last round.
