We will not use the playing surface as an excuse tomorrow, says Basena

FOOTBALL–With all the expected players currently in camp and the Namboole stadium not in the best of conditions, head coach Moses Basena spoke to the press for the very last time before tomorrow’s game against Ghana.

“All the players are in perfect condition and it is always a good feeling having a whole bunch to select from. Yes we have two notable absentees in Murushid Jjuko and Khalid Aucho but we have always been a team that does not rely on individuals,” Basena said.

Jjuuko and Aucho were both booked in Cranes’ last game against Egypt meaning that they had accumulated two yellow cards, automatically ruling them out of tomorrow’s encounter.

Asked about whether he will be employing special tactics to cub the inconvenience of the bad playing surface at Namboole, Basena had this to say.

“Yes the surface is not okay but that will not be a major problem because its the same pitch Ghana will be using,” he said.

The Mandela national stadium was earlier this week used to host a crusade which left the playing surface in a sore condition due to the huge numbers that turned up.

On the Ghanian star players that are not in the team, Basena was quick to dismise suggestions that now Cranes are the favourites.

“Ghana is a nation blessed with loads of talent so whoever is selected will give us the expected challenge. Sometimes it is an advantage that the key players are not around but all in all, the team will be Ghana, multiple African giants,” Basena said.

The Cranes held a light last training session before Ghana also had a feel of the stadium later in the evening.
