Moses Basena, the acting head coach of the Uganda Cranes, will undertake his first league game for the UPDF after he was given the Cranes hot seat.

“We have always done it and I don’t feel any different although of course the players are so different,” Basena said, speaking about the transition from Cranes to UPDF club games.

“Both are football teams and the rules are more so the same,” he continued.

Basena’s UPDF side, formally known as Simba, will go into today’s game knowing the last time they grabbed all three points against URA was in 2012, a good five years ago when they won 1-0.

URA have been busy in the market, signing a couple of experienced players, including Dennis Kamanzi, Joseph Mpande and veteran striker Henry Kiseka, who are both tasked with the job of bringing the tax collectors their first trophy since 2010.

Both teams drew their first games last season 0-0 and will be looking for a better start against one another.

UPDF managed only four wins away from home and three of them came against the teams that where eventually relegated.

URA seem to have UPDF’s number, having won four of the last five games between the two side, drawing the other.

Last season, URA won both of their fixtures with UPDF and coach Ibrahim Kirya, who is targeting a top two finish this season is confident his charges can get the job done.

“Yes they have Moses Basena, the cranes head coach but i know i have got the better players and hopefully we can get all three points today,” Kirya said.

“Our target is to finish in the top two and a good start is what you can hope for if you are to achive that goal,” he added.

In the other game, two female chaired teams in Express and Kirinya JSS will face off at Wankulukuku stadium.
