KICKBOXING–Inter-Continental World Kickboxing champion Alex “Lion Heart” Matsiko has received a huge financial boost ahead of his title defence due next month.

Matsiko will travel to Malaysia for a training camp at the famous Topdog Factory in Kuala Lumpur where he will spend a few weeks training with Muay Thai fighters before moving to China for the bout.

On the day when he was only supposed to be flagged off by the National Council of Sports (NCS) telecom giants MTN raised his spirit by handing him a cheque worth Sh10 million to help him with the preparations.

Matsiko will be defending his world title in China. Nelson Ssengooba.

“I am so thankful to MTN and everyone who has helped me for their support because now I can focus on preparations without any worries ” Matsiko said after receiving the cheque from MTN corporate communications manager Val Oketcho.

“When I was invited to go to Venture City in Malaysia I was worried that I would not be able to make it because of finances but now that I am confident I am going to camp at one of the best Myay Thai gyms in the wold, Uganda should expect the best of results from my title match.”

Matsiko, who has 14 professional fights at 11-4 is still in the dark about the person he is set to face in China after his initial opponent withdrew due to injury but is confident he can win against anyone who steps up to challenge him.
