Makumbi puts pen to paper with Mbarara City. Shaban Lubega.

FOOTBALL–Mbarara City had coach Richard Makumbi has ended speculation over his future signing a new contract committing him to the newly-promoted club until 2018.

Makumbi has coached a host of clubs in the country including Soana BUL FC, Fire Master, Scoul, Bunamwaya (now Vipers), and Victors FC, and is responsible for bringing up to about nine of them to the Uganda Premier League from the lower divisions.

He played a big role for Ankole Lions to gain promotion to Azam Uganda Super League. Mbarara City beat Synergy 2-1 in the second division playoff final to secure promotion to the top flight for the first time.

“I am very happy to have signed a new contract,” said Makumbi.

“We worked extremely hard to have the team’s promotion to azam Uganda super league, which I am very proud of. Now we must work even harder to stay at top flight league.”

Mbarara City has so far played three pre-season build up games against Express, Ntoda FC and Vipers, security a win and two draws.
