Police FC is clearing squad

FOOTBALL — 2005 league champions Police FC have laid off 10 players as the club embarks on revamping the squad that saw them cavort with relegation for the better part of last season.

The notable faces of the departing cast are aging stalwarts Anthony Bongole Sakka Mpiima and Yasin Mubiiru whose performances in the season gone failed to convince Coach Abdallah Mubiru to keep them in his plans for next season.

Speedy winger Michael Birungi, who joined the Cops in January after his professional stint with Sudan’s Khartoum Nationale ended prematurely, was also asked to try his talents elsewhere.

Other players that have been offloaded include Joseph Ssentume, Edwin Hasule, Farouk Kagugube, Yasin Muyimba and Kevin Obua.

While William Wadri and Brian Ochwo, who joined the club from Vipers SC and KCCA on loan, will not be rewarded with permanent deals.

The club has, however, tied down lanky defender Martin Mpunga with a permanent deal and acquired the services of versatile player Steven Mugisha.

Negotiations with Vipers over a possible loan deal for enterprising left-back Aggrey Madoi are underway while Juma Balinya from Lweza and Norman Ojik from Sadolin Paints have been signed.
