All roads lead to Bukono Memorial Secondary School Playground in Ivukula sub-county , Namutumba District for the official opening of this year’s Masaza football tournament.
The event that will be graced by His Royal Highness the Kyabazinga of Busoga Kingdom, William Gabula Nadiope IV, will see Bukono county tussle it out with Kigulu county in what is expected to be a thrilling opening match.
The tournament that features 14 teams started last year and aims at fostering unity in the kingdom. According to the kingdom Sports minister, Amin Bbosa, the King has confirmed to grace the official opening match that will kick off at exactly 4pm.
Fourteen teams will feature in this year’s tournament and they have been divided into four groups. The top two teams in each group will qualify for the knock-out stages.
Last season, Bukholi edged Bunha 3-1 in a one-sided final played at the Kyabazinga stadium in Bugembe. Ronald Batawaire, Dennis Balyeku and Dennis Bazibu netted for Bukholi county.
Emma Waiswa scored the consolation goal for Bunha county, at the finals that also attracted big shots from Busoga Kingdom and the central government as well as Federation of Uganda Football Association representatives led by Moses Magogo, a son of the soil.
