KAMPALA, Uganda — A Ugandan police officer shot and killed a mini-truck driver in a traffic dispute on Ssezibwa Road on Monday, authorities said.
The officer, identified as PC Bahati Charles, fled the scene with his weapon and is currently being sought by police, according to a statement from the Uganda Police Force.
The victim, Ssemwaka Julius, was driving a mini-truck with registration number UAX 460C when the shooting occurred, police said.
“Following the incident, PC Bahati fled the scene with his weapon and is currently on the run,” the police statement said. “A search operation is underway to locate him.”
The police have commenced investigations into the matter, but few details have been released.
“We have commenced investigations into the matter and will share details later,” the statement said.
