My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Tomorrow is June 3rd and therefore Uganda Martyrs’ day.
It is a day that was designated by the Uganda Episcopal Conference as a day for the Laity in Uganda. Just imagine for a moment what the day would have been like had it not been for the situation imposed on us by the corona virus (Covid-19) pandemic.
I would like to request that we do not spend the day lamenting. Instead we should make a spiritual pilgrimage and get some quiet moments wherever we are and reflect on the life of the Uganda Martyrs. A pilgrimage is a journey of faith.
To go on a pilgrimage is not simply to visit a place or to admire its treasures, art or history. It is to encounter God in the special circumstances of the place of interest.
We should also follow and participate in the celebrations that will be broadcast on televisions, radios and other forms of media. Let us use the occasion to pray, through the intercession of the Uganda Martyrs, for the end of the corona virus pandemic and to deepen our faith.
Uganda Martyrs, Pray for us.
The writer, Mr. Gervase Ndyanabo, President Uganda National Catholic Council of the Lay Apostolate (UNCCLA) under the Uganda Episcopal Conference.
