LYANTONDE – A combined military force has Tuesday evening searched a premier hotel in Lyantonde on Mbarara-Masaka Rd, where former Inspector General of Police was reported to have stayed two days ago.
According to emerging reports Tuesday evening, the the combined force included military personell from the Special Forces Command, the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence and Internal Security Organisation.
“They cordoned off the hotel, confiscated all our mobile phones and other gadgets and searched the hotel. They demanded that we show them where Kayihura was,” a hotel manager told PML Daily Tuesday evening.
Hotel proprietor Mr Justus Kyabahwa has in a telephone conversation with this writer confirmed the cordon and search operation on his facility but did not disclose any other details as briefed by his staff about the military operation or whether the beleaguered former IGP stayed at the facility.
“My people told me the operation was conducted by the military and that’s all,” he said.
“We do not disclose client information to the public,” Mr Kyabahwa told PML Daily by telephone.
PML Daily was unable to get a comment from the military to ascertain why the former IGP is wanted man or whether his arrest was imminent.
Gen. Kayihura was dropped as police chief earlier this year after 13 years at the helm of the force.
