KAMPALA – Police have blocked Independent presidential candidate Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde from campaigning in Masindi district.

Tumukunde who arrived in Masindi from Buliisa district at 3pm was blocked by police led by the Masindi District Police commander Vincent Irama from addressing traders at Kijura market.

According to police, they could not allow Tumukunde to address traders in the market since it was not his designated campaign venue.

Irama says they only cleared Tumukunde to hold his rally at Masindi Boma grounds, but he insisted on addressing people on the streets which was wrong as per the guidelines issued by the Electoral commission and the health ministry.

After being blocked, Tumukunde and his team drove to Masindi Kolping hotel where he was supposed to meet his campaign coordinators but it was inaccessible since the hotel is currently undergoing renovation.

This prompted the angry looking Tumukunde to take the Masindi-Kigumba road and proceeded to Kiryandongo district without addressing any of his planned rallies in the district.

Richard Musinguzi, the coordinator for Tumukunde’s campaign team in Masindi earlier in the day said that Tumukunde was supposed to hold a rally at Masindi Booma grounds at 4pm and later meet his agents at Masindi Kolping hotel, but to their surprise there were no people at Masindi Boma grounds.

This is the fourth time police are blocking Tumukunde’s rallies. They blocked him in Kasese, Bundibugyo and other areas.
